About Us
In addition to soundwalks in the Tempe, Arizona area, we incorporate listening workshops, sonic meditations, and group improvisations using naturally-found objects like stones, wood, and water sources.
The Soundwalk program is part of the Acoustic Ecology Lab at Arizona State University.

Why go on a soundwalk?
"It's paradoxically refreshing and unnerving, to be in a place where you must come to terms with the sheer amount of noise in the urban environment, yet that same place allows you to find beauty in something as mundane as footsteps, or to notice hidden little sounds like baby birds nestled in the crevice of a building that was invisible to you before."
Jeremiah Sweeney, composer |
"As a music therapy student, soundwalking really helps me to focus on different sounds separately and as a whole. I believe soundscapes can influence clients' behaviors and progress; music therapists should prepare therapeutic ecoacoustic exercises to benefit clients to their maximum health and capabilities."
Luna Sun, improvisation leader |
"Soundwalks are a great way to take a break from the autopilot of daily routine and engage with the environment in a thoughtful way. At the end of each soundwalk, I notice something new about my surroundings, which in turn teaches me something new about myself. I highly recommend soundwalks to anyone."
Matt Shaver, music teacher |
”The experience I have had on these soundwalks has helped sculpt the way I listen to and observe my environment. The walks that Anne-Marie and Hunter lead are always inclusive, diverse, innovative, and introduce me to a new way of approaching the sounds around me.”
